RUDY GUERNICA

I was born in Santiago, Cuba and raised in Westminster, Maryland. I received a BFA from MICA in Baltimore and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After my art education I worked as Graphic Artist and Art Director in New York City pioneering the use of early Computer Graphics applications for publishing and business presentations. I relocated to the Washington area to start a long career as Producer and Manager in the Broadcasting industry, where I was responsible for launching the first Spanish language newscast in the nation’s capital. I have exhibited in galleries in Chicago, New York, and the DC metro area. My artwork has received numerous awards and is included in various private collections.

Nature is often the theme and inspiration for my art. I like to hike local trails where images from excursions serve as sketches for my original paintings. I also seek inspiration from everyday experience and use photographs as a basis for exploring digital art.  My art is about seeing life through its detail and seeking a transparency of process in the making of art. Individual pieces are most successful when defined by simplicity of Form and integrity of Color. I follow the traditions of impressionism and modernism that validate nature as source and the personal touch of the artist’s hand. I hope you find my art cerebral and contemplative.
